THE BOOK IS NOW ONLINE!!!!!!!!!

You can search it for yourself at the University of Pittsburgh's Digital Library !!!!

THE BOOK:

Many counties and towns put together such histories in the 1870s and 80s as part of the centennial celebration of America. (Remember all the hoopla in 1976?) This 1889 publication was written in two volumes. The lookups I've been doing are all in volume II.

Most of the surnames indexed refer to the above-mentioned "biographies of many of its representative citizens", some are people whose names are mentioned in the histories and descriptions.

I bought the book from the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, website at http://www.clpgh.org/clp/Pennsylvania/wpgs.html . It's also available from your local LDS family history center on microfiche. Both volumes are contained on 21 microfiches, volume II is on 11 fiches. The call number is:

FHL US/CAN Fiche
6088080

I don't know how your local history center works - at mine if you order fiche, it stays there forever rather than going back to Salt Lake like microfilms do. At 15 cents per fiche, you'd be getting the book for considerably less than I paid for it - you just can't curl up on your couch to read it.

These surnames also have first names and page numbers listed:

PREVIOUS LOOKUP REQUESTS:

I've created a page with all the lookups I've done so far. It's in no particular order, use your browser's find function to search through it. If I've already done your surnames, you'l find them faster on the Previously Looked Up Page.
